Free Pussyhat pattern

I decided to give my own spin on the pussyhat.   I hate sewing up seams so this pattern is a refinement of my Andy the Android hat pattern, I used a smaller hook and added more rows for a better fit.    It's worked very similarly to amigurumi, with single crochet.

The cool part is you can customize the causes you support by hinting at them with the contrast color.   Try playing around with different colorways, or even embroidering designs in the triangles of the ears.

Pussyhat pattern
This hat is worked on the round so no seaming, but you will have to sew on the ears.
Materials:
J-10/6.0MM hook
Sport weight yarn in main color
Small amount of sport weight yarn in contrast color.

Using a J-10/6.00MM sized hook and Caron's One Pound or other sport weight yarn in dark pink (or your choice of color):
R1-Ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook
R2-2 sc in each sc around (12 sts)
R3 2 sc in each around (24 sts)
R4- sc 1 in ea (24 sts)
R5-*Sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 12 times (36 sts)
R6- sc 1 in ea (36 sts)
R7-*sc 2, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 12 times (48 sts)
R8- sc 1 in ea (48 sts)
R9-*sc 3, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 12 times (60 sts)
R10-sc 1 in ea (60 sts)
R11-*sc 4, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 12 times (72 sts)
R12-28sc 1 in ea (72 sts)  try the hat on around 23 or 24 rows to determine if you need all 28 rows, or if you need more rows.    Stop when you're satisfied and bind off, weaving in the tail on the wrong side.

Ears:
Using a J-10/6.00MM hook crochet 4 triangles, 2 in main color and 2 in a contrast color.

Triangle:
R1-Ch 9 Turn
R2-Sc 8, Ch 1 Turn (9 sts)
R3 - Sc 6, sc2tog, Ch 1 Turn (8 sts)
R4 - Sc 5, sc2tog, Ch 1 Turn (7 sts)
R5 - Sc 4, sc2tog, Ch 1 Turn (6 sts)
R6 - Sc 3, sc2tog, Ch 1 Turn (5 sts)
R7 - Sc 2, sc2tog, Ch 1 Turn (4 sts)
R8 - Sc 1, sc2tog, Ch 1 Turn (3 sts)
R9, Sc2tog (1sts)
bind off.

Sandwich two triangles together with the contrast color in front and use the main color to sc all around the ear, making sure to weave or put any loose ends inside the sandwich.   You can fit approximately 8 sts up and 8 sts down the other side.  Leave bottom edge open.   Sew ears to hat, fold hat in half to line up ears before sewing in.  Weave in any loose ends on the inside of the hat.

The Captain's New Shirt

The captain's new shirt

The captain's new shirt
I made this shirt for the captain. It only took me about a year to get around to it! This one even has buttons and button holes, my first, and not as hard as I thought they'd be!

McQuilt

McQuilt
McQuilt
This was a retirement gift for the captain's step mom. Here it is in progress, I ended up having to re do at least half, due to bunching. When I was done I was quite pleased, the m's came out well, I made a template and traced in chalk on the quilt, you can see it in the photo. She really liked it, and I'm glad :)
