I crocheted this for the cutest bug lover I know. My coworker's daughter needs to become an etymologist even though she is about 3 right now!
The instructions are a bit wonky since I haven't made a pattern in a while, but they will work this way or you can do all the sc first before the 2 sc in one sc.

Sc 6 in 2nd st
Sc 2 in each (12)
Sc 2 in 1, sc in 2nd st, repeat 6 times (18)
Sc 2 in 1, sc in, 2nd and 3rd st, repeat 6 times (24)
Sc 2 in 1, sc in 2nd 3rd and 4th st repeat 6 times (30)
Sc 2 in 1, sc in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th st, repeat 6 times (36)
Sc 36
sc 2 tog, sc 4, repeat 6 times (30)
Sc 2 tog, sc 3, repeat 6 times (24)
Sc 2 tog, sc 2, repeat 6 times (18)
Sc 2 tog, sc 1, repeat 6 times, (12)
Stuff lightly so it is a half sphere
Sc 2 tog repeat 6 times, (6)
Sc 2 tog, repeat 3 times, bo.
Head
ch 2
Sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook
Sc 2 in each (12)
Sc 1, sc 2 in next st, repeat 6 times (18)
Sc 1, sc 2 tog (12)
Insert 2 9 mm eyes
Stuff lightly
Sc 2 tog, 8 times, bo leaving long tail to sew onto body.
Antennae
Attach a yarn to head and ch 4
Sc 1 in 2 nd ch from hook
Ch 3, bo, weave tail back into antennae, repeat for other antennae
Spots
Ch 2, sc 6 in the 2nd ch from hook
Bo

Add spots or flowers, tie bow on antenna
